Finding No-Kill Bee Removal Services In Your Area
If you’ve discovered honeybees or bumblebees on your property, you may be looking for a no-kill bee removal service near you. Rather than exterminating bees, no-kill beekeepers safely relocate colonies to apiaries where they can continue pollinating. This article explains what no-kill bee removal entails, its benefits, and how to find a reputable provider nearby.
What Is No-Kill Bee Removal?
No-kill bee removal is exactly what it sounds like – the humane removal and relocation of bee colonies rather than extermination. With this approach, beekeepers use various techniques to first calm the bees and lull them into a docile state. They then carefully extract the nest and comb, keeping the queen secure. The entire colony is transported to an apiary or released on suitable land where they can establish a new hive.
This preserves both the lives of the bees and their colony structure The bees can resume their vital ecological roles as pollinators And beekeepers may even harvest excess honey. It’s a win-win solution.
The Benefits of No-Kill Bee Removal
No-kill bee removal provides several advantages:
-
Bee preservation – Bees are safely moved rather than killed. With bee populations in decline, this protects an important pollinator species.
-
Environmental stewardship – Relocating bees is better for the overall ecosystem. Plus, fewer pesticides are released into nature.
-
Elimination of nest – The original nest is still removed from the structure where it posed a nuisance. So the problem is fully solved.
-
Honey production – In some cases, excess honey can be harvested from relocated hives, benefitting beekeepers.
-
Education – Responsible bee removal services provide homeowners with information about bees and their habits. This reduces fear and teaches coexistence.
-
Laws and regulations – No-kill practices often align better with local ordinances protecting pollinators. Liability is reduced.
For all these reasons, no-kill bee removal is the most ethical, sustainable approach for homeowners and bees alike.
How To Find No-Kill Bee Removal Near Me
If you need bee removal services, start your search online for “no-kill bee removal near me.” Reputable providers will advertise their humane practices right on their websites. Here are some additional tips for finding a specialist:
-
Search for “bee rescue” or “live bee removal” – These terms are synonymous with no-kill methods.
-
Look for explicit no-kill policies – Ethical outfits will state their commitment directly. Their language should emphasize saving bees.
-
Ask about relocation – Good providers explain where and how they re-establish colonies after removal.
-
Research beekeeper affiliations – Many no-kill companies are run by professional beekeepers committed to bee welfare.
-
Read reviews and testimonials – Feedback from past clients can confirm gentle, non-lethal practices.
-
Check state registrations – Licensed beekeepers follow best practices for careful handling and transport of bees.
-
Avoid exterminators – Pest control companies specialize in eliminating infestations through any means, not bee preservation.
-
Ask questions over the phone – A lengthy Q&A session can reveal useful details on a company’s processes.
-
Request inspections and estimates – Early home visits let you meet technicians and see how they interact with bees.
Prioritizing no-kill methods not only helps sustain bees – it also reflects your own values and ensures alignment with the removal company. A bit of research can connect you with ethically-minded, conscientious bee experts.
What To Expect During No-Kill Bee Removal
On the day of removal, you can expect the process to unfold something like this:
-
Preparing the workspace – The area around the hive will be laid with tarpaulins or plastic sheeting to catch drips and debris.
-
Applying smoke – Beekeepers use smoke to sedate bees and mask alarm pheromones, keeping them calm and unlikely to sting.
-
Removing comb – Combs are cut away using a special heated knife or saw. Sections are carefully extracted to keep them intact.
-
Securing the queen – The queen will be located, captured, and isolated in a secure box to accompany the colony.
-
Extracting the hive – Once combs are removed, the main hive structure comes out. Netting may be used for aerial hives.
-
Transporting the colony – Bees are placed in vented boxes or screened crates for safe transit to their new home.
-
Cleaning up – The removal area is cleaned, with damaged comb and honey residue properly disposed of.
-
Educating customers – Beekeepers provide guidance on preventing future bee issues. They may even offer removed honey.
Working slowly and gently, skilled bee removal technicians can eliminate hives without a single bee death. The grateful buzzing you hear is the sound of lives saved.
Finding A No-Kill Bee Remover Near Me
With their key pollination services, bees deserve special care and consideration when they set up camp where they aren’t wanted. No-kill bee removal offers a humane fix that prioritizes coexistence and conservation. Locating a skilled provider near you is the first step towards resolving your bee problem while also supporting local bee populations. Choose wisely and breathe easy knowing your unwelcome guests have found greener pastures.
LACBA does not provide bee/swarm removal services. Please contact one of the beekeepers on the referral list below!
If you find a swarm (cluster, ball or bunch) of bees on your property, dont panic. Dont grab a can of Bee and Wasp Control and spray them. And dont call an exterminator. Call a Beekeeper! .
The LACBA does not endorse or recommend any specific bee removal companies. We do offer the following list of LACBA Club Sponsor Members who are experienced beekeepers who know how to get rid of bees and swarms.
Swarming bees are not usually aggressive. They’re looking for a new home. If possible, a responsible beekeeper will try to save the hive and move it. If there are signs that the hive is aggressive, the beekeeper will either re-queen it or destroy it. It is much harder to get rid of a swarm from a building than it is to catch colonies in trees or bushes. If bees have moved into a building, it might need to be opened to get the bees, the comb, and the honey out. Read your contract as to what your and the beekeeper’s contractual obligations are. These beekeepers may not be licensed contractors and may choose to not take on hazardous removals. If the swarm is hanging from high voltage lines call your local electric company.
Most beekeepers charge for their services (which may just be to cover their time and costs). Cost varies depending on the job. The LACBA DOES NOT have a list of bee removal charges. You need to call the beekeeper directly.
Make sure you contact a beekeeper who serves the area where the bees are located. We appreciate your contacting a beekeeper for bee/swarm removal and request that you be respectful of these beekeepers. They sometimes can’t handle all the requests they get for removals, and they also have to take care of their bees. Thank you!.
